Roku has a very wide channel range to pick from, and has a lot of options to play around with. So, one would naturally expect a web browser for Roku as well, right? So that you can search for the movies and soaps that are not readily available on the channel stores yet, or simply to surf schedules?

Unfortunately, Roku does not have a decent search engine yet. To be fair enough, they do not even have a search engine, and all that’s up for picking are a few amateur channels trying to give us a search engine experience. So, there are not a lot of options for web browser for Roku, but you can choose which one you’d like to give a try from the options below.

Web Browser for Roku

There is also a workaround, but we’ll discuss it after we’ve explained the couple of options available on Roku.

  1. Poprism

It’s a free channel that you can download from the Roku channel store! It’s not an actual fully functioning web browser for Roku, since they allow only text-based content.

  1. Web Browser X

Web Browser X is a paid channel unlike the earlier one, so is a bit better than the other options. The browser does not limit the content you can search for, meaning you would still be able to search for images and videos just a normal browser. But the point here is, the browser does not use the internet, but their own servers to fetch information from, so the search result in this web browser for Roku is never even close to the search results you get from Google Chrome.

How to install the browsers?

To install these web brochures, you will have to download them, then install and then activate them from your Roku account. To do this, please go to the Roku channel store.

  1. Search for the name of the channel.
  2. Once you get the search results, please make sure to click and highlight the one that you want to download.
  3. After the channel that you want is highlighted, click on the options and select the option to install.
  4. Wait for the channel to be downloaded completely, and installed.
  5. If there are any software updates, then let the channel carry forward that as well, so wait for it.
  6. After the entire download is complete, please open the channel.

Once you open the web browser for Roku, please go ahead and note down the activation code displayed on your TV screen. Go to Roku.com/activate and enter the same in the separate browser.

Google Chrome on Roku?

Though these we browsers for Roku are decently equipped, they are no match for actual browsers like Chrome. But, there aren’t any direct options to get chrome on Roku, so we must try screen mirroring. Try opening the computer, surfing the internet, getting what you wanted, and at the same time mirroring your screen onto Roku connected TV. If you can do that, then this is a win-win! You don’t really have to jailbreak Roku, you don’t have to install anything, still you get to see what’s on the internet, on the TV screen!
